Say Anything by Carla Ryan

⭐⭐⭐★

This is a novella about self-discovery and owning the person you are. It is not overly complicated or angsty but has enough exploration to not be completely without personality either.

Twenty-something Sloan Foster is a country girl with self-esteem issues. She is struggling to find her feet in New York. She meets Ellie Howland, a nurse in an ER. Ellie has her own issues in form of a very domineering mother. Sloan unexpectedly finds herself kissing Ellie and thus exploring her sexuality. With Ellie’s unflinching support, she slowly sheds off her meekness. But as a result of all this claiming of herself, Sloan also finds sparks with another woman, Anna.

Given the length, things happen fast. Issues are sorted out easily (particularly between Ellie and her mother, Laura). Angst is resolved with speed.

This is a fair read for a few easy hours or maybe as a break between more serious, deeper (and angsty?) reads.
