Though this is listed as a prequel to Winter
Jacket, this is more of a parallel-quel (okay, from now this is a
thing). Covering about the first 30% of Winter Jacket, this is the story
from Hunter’s PoV and also Hunter’s back story.
Hunter Dyson is a nursing student attending Elle Graft’s
class (was it Creative Writing or was it English – well, some such) which
mandatory for her course. Except that she falls into crush-at-first-sight.
So here’s a confession: We DID NOT like Elle in Winter
Jacket. In fact, we were seriously disturbed by her behaviour with Hunter
in the scene after Hunter has Elle meet her parents. That is the primary reason
we didn’t continue with the series. We DISLIKE Elle (yes, in caps).
But, we LOVED Hunter.
Ergo, this book was read and love happened again.
It is a good idea to read Winter Jacket maybe before
or immediately after reading this book because this book doesn’t particularly
go anywhere in the end.
