Simone Price is ambitious and hardworking, climbing
her way up the ladder in a publishing house. Loreto Molina is a
laidback, irreverent tour guide in Malaga. Simone’s holiday is Italy is
hijacked by her work when she is sent to Spain to buy out a smaller publishing
house in Malaga. Simone wants to quickly soak in everything Spain in a week so
that she can convince the reluctant owners of the publishing house to sell. She
engages Loreto to aid her quest for local culture and also to be her
translator.
We are a little mixed about this book. We enjoyed the tour
of Spain. Loreto is supposed to be easy-going while Simone is supposed to be
uptight. However, Simone is self-aware, open, honest and vulnerable – ergo,
really likeable. Loreto is secretive, judgemental, superior and moody – pretty awful.
A relationship between them is rather forced, but Spangler manages to get
fairly good chemistry in some scenes. So here is where we get completely mixed
up – we absolutely do not think this is the best book by this author, but
standalone, it is not completely terrible either.
All we can say is, go for it if you must, but don’t have any
expectations.
