Helena and Amy have a good marriage as evidenced by the
beautiful home they own together and their six-month old son. In their five
years together they have built a fairly strong relationship. Or so Helena
believes till the night Amy steps out to buy cigarettes and doesn’t return. While
searching for her spouse, Helena starts discovering things she’d not suspected
about Amy. She realises that her relationship and life were not what she
thought they were.
This is a story about unravelling of a relationship – and Helena
is such a lovely lady that our heart aches for her. Amy keeps getting worse and
worse through the book making us wonder why Helena ever got into a relationship
with her. Thankfully, the author had created a new love interest for her in DS
Alex Castor; because Helena surely deserves to be cherished.
This is a short book but makes one uneasy and leaves you
unsettled (despite a happy ending). Not our idea of a pleasant or recommended
read at all – despite the fact we really like Helena.
