Simply awesome! This novel is fantastic
in its description of love and all the tenderness and caring that love has.
Leontyne Blake was more than happy to
leave her tiny hometown, Fair Oaks, fourteen years back to pursue her dream of
becoming a pop star. She is now a super-successful pop star but rather burnt
out with the whole pressure of it. She wants a break, but when her mother calls
and asks her to come home because her father has had a stroke, Leo makes her
way home. Going back to a place she was glad to escape, for a father with whom
she hasn’t got a good relationship is not the kind of break Leo was angling for.
But she goes home nevertheless. She finds one, Holly Drummond, in her house.
Holly is her father’s nurse and more at home in Leo’s childhood home than Leo
is. Holly also deeply entrenched into Leo’s parents’ lives and in Fair Oaks,
which she loves. Leo and Holly grow close and Leo gets romantically interested
in Holly, only to be stonewalled, because Holly is asexual and hasn’t had a
great experience in the past with people’s inability to deal with her
asexuality.
This book explains asexuality and its
many forms through Leo trying to understand Holly. While the whole revelation
about asexuality is in the front and centre of this book, what really blew us
is the love between the two MCs. The need each has and the effort they both
take to truly understand the other. The caring between them. Leo is willing to
let go of sex for Holly and Holly is willing to have sex for Leo. And they both
talk about everything to each other. That is so great. Besides understanding,
caring about and dealing with eachothers’ sexuality, there is also the whole
thing with Leo being and needing to be in the big city and Holly being firmly
entrenched in Fair Oaks.
This book is what we always feel love
should be.
The other book that made us feel that this
is what love should be was In
the Silences for similar reasons as Perfect Rhythm and Jump
Then Fall for the subtle but very strong emotional caring.
This book is unmissable.
