Initially we were set to soak in the
madness-and-mayhem slapsticky romcom that this book seemed to be. But somewhere
in the middle, it just flagged. At the end, it hits about the okay level.
Aislin O'Shea is a vet with very close family bonds,
particularly with her five (or was it six) sisters, mother and niece (Sabrina).
She lost her wife, Shannon a few years back and has a nightmare about receiving
news of the accident that killed Shannon every night. Zane Whitman comes
from a super-rich family and is a successful lawyer in her own right. Her
orderliness is in contrast to Aislin’s impulsiveness – amongst many other
counterpoints in their lives and personalities.
Somewhere around the middle, Aislin’s constant poor
treatment of Zane got irritating. Especially since each time Zane went back to
either apologise or just work on a barely there relationship. However on the
plus side, Aislin is physically described so well that Zane’s lust for her
earthy sexiness can be given leeway. Not like Zane is any slouch herself. In
fact, she seems even hotter, though in a very Nordic way.
What really saved this book from sinking completely in our
enjoyment was the fact that in the end Zane stands up for herself and stops
grovelling for transgressions which were mostly imagined.
Not a great read, but far from a write-off -- seeing that some parts are really funny and the sex scenes are plenty good.
