⭐⭐⭐⭐
A rich businesswoman mourning the loss
of the love of her life has become something of a social recluse. An escort who
unexpectedly burrows deeper into the ‘dead’ heart. Not exactly a ground-breaking
premise. But oh-so-well-told!
Sam Phillips lost her wife Lucia a few couple of
years back. Since then she has solely focussed on her business. Her younger
sister and assistant are concerned. With a little pushing from them, Sam
contact Alexis, an escort for dinner and conversation. Alexis is about thirteen
years younger than Sam (we mention this because the age gap becomes an issue in
the book) who escorts because she likes good food, good conversation and
beautiful women. Alexis is attracted to Sam right away and Sam has not laughed
with anyone after Lucia and before Alexis.
Between the two, Sam carries many more emotional issues and has
more resistance, which leads her to make more mistakes in the relationship,
sometimes even being cruel. But there is an unexpected sweetness in their
relationship. Yes, there is attraction and chemistry…but the sweetness was what
grabbed us.
It was surprising that this ended with a second book to
follow. It is quite complete in itself, especially the romance part. And once
again – it is just so sweet.
