⭐⭐⭐⭐
It’s all about love. Parental love, filial love, platonic
love, close friends’ love and of course, romantic love. Completely angst-free
and thoroughly encompassing, the world that the author creates is the kind of
world everyone dreams of living in.
Veronica (Vee) Baird is an ex-detective who was wounded
badly in the past in the line of work. And then her house burnt down. Without a
job, without income, without a home and with a nine-year old daughter, she
returns to Seattle from Portland into the comforting world of her college
friends, Jordan and Alice; and their partners and group of friends – ‘the
mermaid pod’. She meets Scarlett, a paediatrician, through Alice and is
attracted. However, self-doubts, depression, negative self-image etc. hold back
Vee but Scarlett has no such compunctions.
The book is narrated in first person by Vee but does a fine
job of developing every single character. While it is primarily built around the
relationship between Vee and Scarlett from their first meeting to proposal, it
also showcases many other relationships equally well.
And sex! Yes, great sex scenes! Plenty of great sex scenes!
Read this to get lost in a beautiful world of strong, loving
women supporting and looking after each other – who are also hyper-sexed. We loved
this book.
