Touch by Kris Bryant

⭐⭐

You know those times when someone uses all ingredients and yet the dish lacks punch? Yeah, this is a book like that. It has all the tropes: doctor-patient, forbidden alliance due to nature of work, celebrity MC, lots of ‘tell’ of attraction, sex scenes; and it still is flat.

Hayley Sims is a physical therapist, considered the best in her field. She mostly works with children and achieves magical results. Elizabeth Stone, a professional hockey player has fractured her leg just as the practise for the next season is about to begin. Stone (as she prefers being called) is assigned to Hayley because athletes are supposed to be as difficult as kids.

When they first meet, Hayley is in a relationship with Alison. She has issues with Alison, but even those are much more tell than show.  And therein lies the problem with this book. There is so much described and so little actually visible in the interactions that it just doesn’t translate to any reader experience. Also, the conflict introduced makes Stone seem marginally flaky and too easily influenced. Hardly the kind of virtues that lead to HEA.

This is an essentially forgettable book.
