Izzy is running the restaurant and making a success of the venture. She is not
interested in relationships after having been cheated by her ex, Dana. While
she has moved on, Dana hasn’t and keeps reappearing, asking Izzy to take her
back.
Mel Thomas is CEO of a consulting firm which amongst other
things does websites. She is in a ten-year old godawful marriage. Her friends
are mystified as to why a strong, successful businesswomen like her is staying
with her cheating husband with whom she hasn’t had sex in the past year. Even
before that sex was at most, infrequent.
During her birthday celebration in Bella, Mel’s husband
claims work and leaves her, after having promised to spend the weekend with
her. Mel has a meltdown and Izzy offers her a shoulder to cry on and then ends
up giving her phone number to Mel…to straight, married Mel.
The author has written Izzy and Mel as emotional, passionate
women with their own flaws. They have issues of jealousy, of jumping to
conclusions about each other, of not hearing the other…many of the typical new-relationship
issues that are so common. But with all their imperfections, misunderstandings
and being deaf to the other, the reader wants them to be together and roots for
them all through…without getting frustrated with them. That is quite the skill
of the writing.
A high on drama book, which a fairly nice, nevertheless.
