We’ve had a big learning from his book: covers DO NOT
represent what is inside. At all. Look at the cover – it has a bright, happy
feel about it. The book is anything but.
Jennifer Wilson lost her parents seventeen years back
and she became the de facto parent to her younger sister, Kelsey. Jennifer left
her studies to bring up her sister. Riley Blake is Kelsey’s BFF who is
always hanger around at the sisters’. Jennifer cannot stand Riley and her wild
ways. When Kelsey gets pregnant thanks to a hook-up at a club, Jennifer and Riley
end up spending time together and at long last acknowledge their mutual crush. And then all sorts of drama erupts in both their lives.
In the first scene, we felt Jennifer was ridiculous. Somehow
Kelsey’s announcement of her pregnancy to her sister and bestie becomes a fight
between the two – and Kelsey, her situation and feelings are completely
overlooked. However, as the book progressed, Jennifer was nice – very nice, in
fact. But Riley. We’ve never met such a self-absorbed, childish, immature and dislikeable
character ever. The limit was when Jennifer loses her sister, it becomes about
Riley’s feelings being hurt and Riley ghosting on Jennifer. Worse, the author
tries to have us sympathise with Riley at all times. No. Just no. Also there
was absolutely no necessity to kill off Kelsey, one of the sweetest characters
written.
We completed this book only and only due to bull-headed
tenacity and because we did like Jennifer quite a bit. This one is so not
recommended.
