This book is unrealised promise. The premise is interesting
with inbuilt potential for sparks, drama and everything else. But nothing is
followed through.
Mae Huxley owns a tech start-up in which her parents and best
friend, actress June, are partners. Mae’s parents and June are silent partners
inasmuch they provide financial support only. On the cusp of growing bigger,
Mae is floundering because she is essentially a one-person management and
decision-making team and it is all a little too much. June brings in Audrey
Addison, a legend in the tech space who is now an angel investor and venture
capitalist. Mae has reservations about being steamrolled by the much-more
experienced Audrey and losing her company. She is also all sorts of attracted
to Audrey, who is there in Mae’s life only for a short time, at best.
Despite the great premise, the book is completely
lacklustre. The writing and narration cover everything but in such a
superficial manner that it all seems cardboard. There was not one single moment
of feeling any emotion including any sort of attraction between the MCs. The
dialogue is flat.
This book is completely avoidable.
