Cara Taylor works in one of the only two pubs in the small
village she's grown up in and dreams of moving out of there someday. While
saving to fly the coop, she lives with her friend, Jenny, the other one of the
"best lesbians in this shitty village" -- both totally femme. Jenny
is a property owner and besides the apartment that she shares with Cara, there
is another one that she leases out. When she embarks on a hot, hot affair with
a lady she met on a dating site, Jenny asks Cara to be the welcoming committee
for her new tenant, Frankie.
It is lust at first sight for Cara when she meets Frankie
and her interest seems to be returned. Except that Jenny unambiguously tells
Cara not to shag her new tenant plus, Frankie seems to be carrying some
emotional secrets.
This one is really short and Parkes manages to cover quite a
few threads in it. So there is the friendship, angst with parent, slimy boss,
Jenny super fast romance and drama I it, Frankie's baggage, the Cara-Frankie
romance, plus a few sex scenes. Obviously, with so much being fit into a rather
short read, nothing is really explored with any kind of depth. The abruptness
with which Cara and Frankie enter into sex is quite mind-spinning. It has some
fun dialogue (mostly between Cara and Jenny).
This is a narrative that skims the surface and in turn can
be skimmed through.
