We’re not quite sure what this one was all about. Despite
having romances (yes, in plural), sexy times and police drama, this one was
something of a drag.
Kana Sorbinno is a law enforcement officer who finds
herself being almost stalked by supermodel, Palani Ryker. Palani is not
happy in her marriage and exposure to a fellow model, who is a lesbian, makes
her believe that she may be gay. Palani has insta-attraction to Kana and
decides to pursue her. There is one scene and one dialogue where Kana says that
she refuses to get involved with a married woman before the two get involved in
a passionate affair. Things go south when Palani gets pregnant and Kana ends
their relationship with a conversation. A few months later, a new member in
their team, Cat catches Kana’s eye and they get involved – both issuing
disclaimers of no-emotional-attachments. Then there is Cat rescuing Elizabeth, an attention-seeking wild-child, from herself. In
dramatic fashion Palani returns in Kana’s life and Cat is heartbroken, but
strong. Elizabeth is Cat’s anchor at this point. And things just kind of go on and
on.
There is a lot of stress laid on the
fact that Kana is a Somoan beauty. We’re not certain why that had to be brought
up so often. Some insights into the Samoan culture, though, were nice. We’re
not quite convinced about Cat and Elizabeth’s relationship in which Elizabeth
is petrified of crossing Cat in any way and fears being dumped. There is too
much of power put in Cat and that is just a very uneven relationship. Also, for
all Kana’s swagger, the one instance when she is actually in a fight with
Palani’s brother, she is so dusted. There are a confusing number of characters
with all sorts of inter- and cross- connections amongst them.
Though readable and with some good sexy
times (which, along with Palani’s naïve sweetness, gives it its rating), this
one is not exciting in the least.
