Dreaming of Paradise by Emma Collins

⭐⭐☆

This one is an age-gap, holiday romance between a burnt-out lawyer (burnt out lawyers, actresses and writers seem to be big favourites in lesfic) and a surfing instructor.

Jenna, a divorce lawyer from New York City has been asked to take time off, after putting in way too many hours to become partner. Her friend, Nina, who owns a bar at a beach is fortuitously going on a vacation to Europe and asks Jenna to house-sit. Hayley is a surfing instructor carefully squirreling away money to start her own surf school. She is suddenly hit with an impossible-to-meet raise in rent and is almost homeless – till Jenna offers to share Nina’s apartment with her. They are attracted to each other, but Hayley doesn’t do casual and Jenna is scheduled to leave in three months. They both get onto a dating app to avoid getting involved with the other – but end up finding each other on the app too.

We liked the premise but the writing is too sophomoric. There isn’t much depth to the characters or the relationship. And try as we might, we just couldn’t feel the chemistry.

At best, this is average (or a little less than).
