⭐⭐⭐⭐
The author takes an improbable twosome and
writes such a splendid romance that you actually thing it is possible.
Selina Hale, 52, is the COO of an accountancy firm and
she rocks at her job. Even if it means losing humanity and human contact. She
is obsessed by the goal of getting on to the board of her company. Kate Morgan,
25, is homeless and seeking safety in the public parking lot in which Selina’s
company rents space. Selina doesn’t approve of a homeless vagrant in the
parking concerned about the impression that clients will get. With a goal of
getting the girl out of the lot, Selina arm-twists the
owner of a coffee shop that the company uses extensively to give Kate an unpaid
position. The lives of the two women oddly keep crossing and intertwining.
Selina is established as a ruthless
person right in the beginning but she is uncharacteristically unwaveringly nice
in all her interactions with Kate. So that was ice-queen-but-not-quite – which we
like. Kate is destitute but proud and spirited. She is a really well written
character. The connection between the two MCs is excellently written right from
the beginning.
There are some issues, though. Like
Selina’s sister suddenly, completely disappears. Kate is too strong to be
really considered someone who has serious self-esteem issues. The whole Selina –
Carrie track is not completely dealt with.
Nevertheless, this is a great romance and
a lovely read.
