Gallows Humor by Carolyn Elizabeth

⭐⭐⭐

Corey Curtis is an Autopsy Services Coordinator at Jackson City Memorial Hospital. She is kinda badass and a plain ass with her girlfriend, Anna. Dr. Thayer Reynolds is the newest ER doctor in the same hospital. Thayer crashes a class that Corey is conducting for a dekko – and both the women find themselves intrigued by the other. While conducting the post-mortem of a construction site worker, Corey finds inconsistencies in the supposed cause of death (a fall) and the trauma in the skull, so she sets out to find more.

In the beginning, the detailing of the post-mortem was way too detailed. We actually skimmed most of the gory intricacies.

Almost nothing about Corey is likeable. And almost nothing redeems her right through the end.

But Thayer! Oh Thayer! Love her. Little bit crushing on her happening here (okay, maybe more than a little bit).

Corey seems to be blessed in the area of women because her ex, Anna, is also lovely. Emily, a girl crushing on her is cute. And of course, Thayer. Can we put it out there that we resent books when someone as undeserving as Corey gets a Thayer (or even an Anna)?

This is a fairly easy, light, entertaining read – but more in the romance category than crime/mystery.
