Piece of Cake: The Wedding By Gun Brooke

⭐☆

The novella format is not something that everyone can handle. And this one falls short despite the author’s many, many attempts at adding all possible elements: unspoken love, interfering family, bi-racial couple, age gap, angst. But it just doesn’t fall together.

Holly McAllister is successful corporate biggie and Kendal Moore her assistant. To retain her US visa, Holly asks Kendal to fake marry her for three years. Kendal agrees because she harbours a secret crush on her icy, terrifying boss.

The novella is about their jitters and journey on the day of the marriage.

However, it just doesn’t work. The characters never become real. Their conversations (particularly between the two MCs) don’t sound real. After admitting attraction to each other, there is still inexplicable drama between them. We just didn’t get the scenario or the characters.

It may work for a quick read if you’re really have nothing else at hand. But for this length of a novel, we would definitely recommend Ab Kaāl’s Payback’s a Bitch and Everything Has Changed for the sheer fun in them.
