Meghan O’Brien’s calling card is definitely sex of the
spanking+dildo variety. All her books have extremely explicit, detailed and
fairly long sex scenes. Like, every move of a finger and every breath is
written out in detail. However (surprisingly, there is a however), she also
manages to create fairly detailed MCs and a romance too. Interestingly, she
also sometimes throws in not-frequently-addressed personality issues; in this
one it is insecurity. (In Camp Rewind it is shyness).
In this one the two MCs are: Alex, a butch photographer and
Claire, a geeky, nerdy business woman. (The nerdy, socially awkward geek is one
of O’Brien’s favourite characters who makes an appearance in most of her
novels. Surprisingly despite the social awkwardness, the geek is thoroughly uninhabited
when it comes to sex.) Alex’s sister is Sarah, who is Claire’s best friend and
business partner. In fact, Sarah is one of the most fleshed out characters in
this book. Her emotions feel real and her dialogues are more fun than the
others.
This one is a typical O’Brien book with one strange OTT caricature
in Alex’s ex. But the ex’s purpose seems just to ensure the last sex scene with
the domme role handed over to Claire. Also, the first sex scene was just too, too long. So long that it made us abandon the book for a few weeks.
Also, Alex's exhibition on female genitalia...that is just way too much of fantasy just to set stage for the two MCs to get off with each other.

There is nothing to really ever complain about in O’Brien’s
books, but if you’re just starting out with this author, Thirteen Hours should
be your first choice because Laurel in that book is just so lovely.
